Urgent: Support Trans Folks’ Basic Needs in Washington

Right now, trans and gender-expansive people across Washington State are struggling to meet their most basic needs—food, housing, healthcare, and safety.

But public funding for trans lives is disappearing at the exact moment we need it most.

Over the past year, our organization alone has seen losses of over $250,000 as funders, sponsors, and former partners give in to federal pressures. At the same time, our community is facing record levels of discrimination, job loss, food insecurity, care disruptions, and mental health crises.

As many as 300,000 Washingtonians—your neighbors, colleagues, students, and loved ones—are struggling, while cuts to life-saving services continue to increase. Every county, every city, every town across Washington is being impacted.

During these impossibly difficult times, Trans-Wa has done everything in its power to not only stay afloat, but to actually expand services to those most in need. We now provide free and sliding-scale gender-affirming therapy and case management, while continuing to grow our peer support groups, community aid programs, and advocacy efforts.

But we are still receiving a growing and unprecedented number of requests for support with vital documents, emergency relocations, mental and physical healthcare access, and essentials like food, housing, and clothing. We anticipate needing a minimum of $180,000 to sustain one full year of our free and accessible community support programming. To even begin to close this gap, we need our full community behind us.

Each dollar of  your generosity will support:

  • $50 covers 1 hour of skill-building for a new gender-affirming care provider
  • $190 covers 1 free Case Management appointment for a client navigating food and care access, housing stability, and crisis needs.
  • $1,580 provides 1 free Support Group offering connection, affirmation, skill-building, and community care.
  • $5,030 funds 1 Name/ID Change Clinic, supporting dozens of community members with securing vital documents that improve safety, mental health, and resource access.
  • $12,380 makes 1 Community Aid event possible, providing basic needs support, connection, and joy to 300+ trans and gender-expansive community members.

Please give whatever you can, and please share this widely.

Every dollar donated to this campaign directly supports trans people surviving hostile conditions and helps us fight back against the intentional and systemic erasure of our people.

Your action matters. Your solidarity matters. Thank you for standing with us.
